Launched in 2011, the Yorubaland Health Initiative connects the Yoruba diaspora in Ottawa with healthcare partners in Nigeria to support targeted screening, medical equipment, medication and community outreach.

Our Journey Across Yorubaland

From diabetes screening in Ibadan to hypertension outreach in Ogun State, YHI has built a growing record of practical, community-based health support.

2012

Oyo State — Diabetes

In partnership with St. Mary’s Hospital, Eleta, Ibadan, YHI supported free diabetes screening clinics and provided monitoring supplies. More than 4,000 people were screened.

2014

Lagos State — Tuberculosis

YHI supported tuberculosis screening in Amukoko, Lagos, including the purchase of a portable X-ray machine and power generator for mobile screening activities.

2017

Ekiti & Ondo — Hypertension

Working with local healthcare partners, YHI provided blood pressure monitors, medication and other resources to support free hypertension screening clinics.

2022

Ogun State — Expanded Outreach

YHI partnered with Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu, providing blood pressure monitors, laptops, medication and support for outreach activities across multiple communities.

Next Stop: Osun State

The YHI journey continues. Our next planned project will extend the initiative to Osun State, with a fundraising target of $10,000 to support the 2027 outreach.
